Together, We Collide as One Ilocos Sur

"Ilocos Sur Festival: Where The Past and The Future Collides"
    
    As the January chapter comes to an end until the chapter flips its month to February, Ilocanos clearly know what that means. The day  comes where Ilocos Sur is separated from Ilocos Norte. It's the time where Ilocanos celebrate the festival of the whole Ilocos Sur. However, when we say "Ilocos Sur Festival", people mostly thinks the word itself, simply a celebration of Ilocos Sur. Nevertheless, digging deeper, little did we know, there are still other importance or reasons why we are celebrating the Ilocos Sur Festival. But before moving on, I would like to put into words how Ilocos Festival went for me; Impressive, Lively, Optimistic, Captivating, Open-minded, & Spirited.


    "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much" - Hellen Keller. Celebrating this symbolic festival shows the essence of being "One Ilocos Sur". Where unity comes to life for every Ilocanos out there. Even though we came from different cities and municipalities, we cannot deny that we are one, that whatever we say, we are all from Ilocos Sur and we celebrate as one. At the end of day, Ilocos Surians will still be the one to help each other in times of crisis  or when someone needed help. Most importantly, at the end of the day, we, Ilocos Surians will still be the one to be proud of one's achievement like "Alla! Nangabak ni kastuy", "Karaman jay ili ti kastuy!" with a smile on our faces. As the newly elected Miss Ilocos Sur said, "Ubi Concordia Ibi Victoria" - When there is unity, there is victory.

    One of the importance also of celebrating the Ilocos Sur Festival is it is a way of preserving, nourishing, and being proud of our culture and tradition. Through this celebration, we are able to know and to focus more not only to the specific municipality or city that we live in but also the other place where Ilocos Surian live. Being able to witness those culture and tradition of different places in Ilocos Sur led us in knowing its secret gem in every aspects, as well as what real Ilocos Surian is. Cultures and traditions of Ilocos Sur is something that we can proud of because of how amazing it is. How we remain abundantly preserving it even though already decades goes by. The evidence of that is how the tourists come just to visit and how they are returning here in Ilocos Sur just to re-visit the mesmerizing places they've been.

Moving on,  Ilocos Sur Festival is Impressive. Why? The organization of the succeeding events says it all. How the events are inexhaustible. Additionally, those events that happened and still happening makes Ilocos Surian happy and entertained. Those concerts where people happily joined the rhythm of the music that performers sing. Those contests that gave a lot of Ilocos Surians a chance to showcased and their abilities and talents. And of course, the Tawid ken Kultura Ilocos Sur Trade and Food Fair 2024 that gave the Ilocos Surians a chance to showcased their own food from their municipalities and gave the Ilocos Surians a chance to taste the different foods from the different part of Ilocos Sur. 

    Another one, the Festival is Lively. However, it's the Ilocanos who makes it lively. This festival would not be complete without the presence of the people from Ilocos Sur. How they exert their efforts even though their places are near or far just to celebrate this festival. Their loud cheers and vibrant smiles that makes the festival lively as well as exciting. 

    Additionally, as for my observation, this festival symbolizes Optimisticity. This Festival is a way of motivating people from around the world to visit and explore the beauty of Ilocos Sur. Moreover, it is optimistic in a way that in the future generation, this culture and tradition will not be gone. Why? Because many kids have been able to witness and see the cultures and traditions of Ilocos Sur that later on will be engaged by them in the near future or even now. It is a positive delivery of a message that the Ilocos Sur Festival containing the cultures and traditions of Ilocos Sur will still be successful and something to be proud of in the future. 

    Ilocos Festival is also Captivating. The different events that got people’s attention. Especially the different things that are displayed in the Ilocos Sur Trade and Food Fair. It is also captivating in a way that they made sure that the plans for Ilocos Festival can get people’s attention. Additionally, they will also get to enjoy it. That they will go home with amazement coupled with smiles on their faces.

    I also love the way that this festival is Open-minded. Their contested activities require no gender. They made us feel that this Festival is open for everyone. The fact that they also give way for the LGBT’s during the LGBT Festival Queen contest made me proud as an Ilocos Surian. No unequal treatment at all, it’s just simply being proud of who we are. It also symbolizes that acceptance is the key to unity and success.

     Lastly, the Ilocos Sur Festival is Spirited. The way that the events and activities still have the essence of our culture and traditions. How the organizers did not forget to incorporate the traditions, the history, and the culture. The thing that truly amazed me is how they incorporate our history during the q and a of Miss Ilocos Sur 2024. It’s just simply a question, however, I truly learned a lot of new knowledge about Ilocos Sur.

     Amazing festival it is. Ilocos Sur Festival is truly a culture and tradition where the past and the future collide. May we all remember and know the deep importance of Ilocos Sur Festival and not just focus to the name itself. May we maintain the progressiveness of all aspects here in Ilocos Sur. Together, let us be proud of being an Ilocos Surian. Agbiag Ilocos Sur!
