Vigan Fiesta: Where Fun Comes to Life

 Get the Vigan Fiesta Started!

"San Pablo kamang ti ili, San Pablo a katalek mi". City of Vigan people, that sounds familiar right? Every year, as the 3rd week of January ticks, every Bigueño gets delighted. Numerous educational institutions as well as the different Barangays in Vigan City are frantic and occupied with getting ready for various events and competitions. You can see the people's smile and excitement everywhere. In the evening, the City is full of lights, full of people, full of music's, cheers, and claps. What is precisely the root of this? It is because every January, the City of Vigan Celebrated it's Fiesta! To rejoice with their own hometown, almost everyone comes out of their houses to celebrate by watching and celebrating in different contested activities. Tourists especially Bigueño's are ready to huddle just so they can watch the program during an specific day. Most importantly, everyone are ready to huddle just to hear the very famous quotation and symbolization of one of the precious New 7 Wonders Cities of the World, Vigan City. The "Viva Vigan!" 

As a student Bigueño, I will not let myself to be left out during this precious month. I had the opportunity to take part in and see the following events during the Vigan City Fiesta:

EDUCATION DAY INSTITUTIONAL PARADE

January 20, 2024

As a member of Boy Scout of the Philippines - ISNHS Chapter, I gladly joined one of the activities during Vigan City Fiesta. The kick off of Education Day Celebration through foot parade. The lively foot parade was participated by the teachers and learners from across the city's educational institutions. This education day is held with the aim to unite in celebrating knowledge, development, excellence, and the quest of greatness. This activity also shows the importance of teachers, students, and other educational related positions as well as the schools.

MARCHING BAND COMPETITION (Secondary Level)

After the Education Day Institutional Parade which successfully ended at Plaza Burgos, the Plaza was then filled with loud music, vibrant claps, and delighted cheers. I was also able to watch the activity were different schools prepared a lot. The Marching Band Competition (Secondary Level). Students showcased how they amazingly swirled their batons, energetically manipulate their flags, astonishingly played the instruments, and of course, how they showcased their twinkling smiles. This not only aims to compete, but also to showcased talents and for the performers and viewers to enjoy. 

EDUCATION NIGHT

As evening approaches on the clock, here comes the Teachers, excitedly preparing for this night. I was again able to witness the last event for the 20th of January. The Education Night. Where the teacher's from different schools showcased their hidden moves and hidden voices as they joined the "Sayaw, Talento at Galing ng Educators(STAGE) Competition which was the very highlight during the Education Night. This also grabs the opportunity to award the winners of different school related activities which was still related to Vigan City Fiesta. The Education Night aims to showcased the talents of teachers as well as their abilities, not only to teach, but also to perform. 

VIGAN FOOD FESTIVAL

January 18, 2024

One of the activities that I was also able to attend during the Vigan City Fiesta is the Vigan Food Festival Bazaar. This is one of the activities where Bigueño's including me enjoyed a lot. Why? Because it aims to make our tummy happy. Additionally, it is also a way so that foods that are available here in Vigan can be recognized and can be promoted.

LONGGANISA STREET DANCING COMPETITION

January 22, 2023

Many people wouldn't miss the day they are looking forward to, the Longganisa Festival. As I said in the first paragraph, tourists especially Bigueño's are ready to huddle up and that includes me! Just by seeing the picture, we can really see that the one's watching are from different parts of Ilocos Sur, specifically, Vigan, as we all know that Bigueño being a Bigueño, they are ready to huddle up just so they won't miss any details they are watching that I even forgot to take a selfie. This Longganisa Festival showcased the product of the activity itself, the "Longganisa". This activity also aims to showcase the cultural and natural heritage of town.

VIGAN CITY FIESTA

January 25, 2023

It's the day where the very reason of those mentioned activities happened. The most awaited Vigan City Fiesta. The 25th day of  January is the Conversion of St. Paul Parish. As a Bigueño, I am glad and proud that I was able to participate and celebrate the Vigan City Fiesta through Grand Parade. Where all the aspects of the Vigan City Institutions also participated as they gave their bright smiles and energetic wave to everyone.  

Even though I wasn't able to watch and participate in the other activities during the Vigan City Fiesta, being able to witness some of the activities truly amazed me. This precious fiesta indicates how Bigueño's can easily unite in every aspects. Seeing the happiness in the face of people that surrounds me during the Fiesta makes my heart jump happily. Hearing the lively cheers and loud applaud from Bigueño's cheering their co-Bigueño's made me proud. There is no doubt why Vigan City is always at peace. No questions needed why I am proud to be called a "Bigueño". Through this travel blog, I realized that participating and witnessing this activities during Fiesta is not bad at all. The experiences I got from this event serves as an addition knowledge to me as a Bigueño. I am happy that I get to witness and successfully joined in the lively events of the City of Vigan Fiesta. It is indeed a "Viva Vigan! Viva San Pablo".
