What Went Wrong?

Should I Express Gratitude?

President, one word but means so much in the country. A nation's core leader as well as its head of government. Not just for the municipality but for the entire nation, it’s his responsibility to take care of it. How amazing right? However, besides all of that, many of the people in the in the country where the presidents serves still bash and destroy them.

Now that I've been granted an opportunity to write for the previous president of the Philippines, where I currently live. I’ll be honest. When it comes to political matters or involvement, I keep quiet, yet I can't help but react internally. To our former president, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., I will lie if I say that I never felt any annoyance over you. I'd be lying if I said I didn't felt any rage over the unfavorable news that was reported about you. Especially when martial law was in place and every Filipino in our nations human rights were violated. There’s only one question in my head while reading some articles about you that is mostly pointing the things you did which didn’t end up well when you are on your term, “what went wrong?.”

Our dearest former president, what did you do? Where did your vision, “New Society” which is more known as “Bagong Lipunan” in which every individual could be free to fulfill their potential as human beings go? Why did you let your speech after centuries of colonial oppression, which it was time for Filipinos to finally live in a way that it was worthy of their dignity be blown away by the wind? I have many unanswered questions running in my head. But I know that having this question is already negligible just by seeing the condition of the Philippines at present.

On the other hand, besides all of the negative news about you, I cannot help myself but also to feel thankful. Even though things did not turn out well in the end, I am thankful that you allowed the Philippines and the Filipino people to experience advancements in agriculture, industry, and education even in just short period of time. Thank you for having the courage to serve our country not minding the people that is against you. Thank you for 20 years of serving the country. And lastly, I want to express my gratitude for the time you spent with your co-Filipinos.

At present, your son Bongbong Marcos is the president of our country. I'm hoping everything will work great throughout his term.  I’m not having high expectations since I know how hard it is to serve.

Nevertheless, I do hope he will do a great job fulfilling his duties and won't go down the same path you have. Make history that benefited all Filipinos as well as our nation, instead.
